Let’s now look at your Telecoms
OR: if you would prefer to speak to us then quickly send us an email
So you can decide what you want, we’ll run through the basic market options.
They’re in 4 groups:
- Phone Numbers
- Location of Number (e.g. Office, Cloud service, or just on a phone).
- Handset types
- Options
Phone Number
You can bring one with you, or you can ask us to supply one. The choice is as follows:
- UK Geographic (01/02) identifies a location for your business
- UK Non-geographic (03) indicates you are based in the UK
- Freephone (080) free to call (you pay for the inbound call)
- 084/087 – costly to call yet can generate income for your business
We always recommend using a standard 01/02 geographic number (all others, including non-UK, are available).
Location of your number
When someone dials a number, the call is first routed to a handset or a switchboard, we call that the number’s “Location”.
- 1. On your site on a desk handset – & not linked to a Cloud or office PBX
- (think normal BT phone). This may cut costs yet will limit your ability to add features.
- 2. On a Cloud or network based “IVR”
- Cloud-based systems are becoming popular. They allow various options to be added (paid or free).
- 3. On-site with an office-based “PBX”.
- This is a small black box, the size of a book. It comes complete with many Cloud options so can avoid the need to rent a Cloud system.
Handsets. We’ll now look at the three options for phones.
- 1. Standard PSTN phone handset:
- Just the same as any normal traditional home phone
- They connect to a physical phone line so you often need a phone line for each handset; which can become expensive!
- 2. SIP/VOIP phone handset
- These are replacing PSTN phone handsets; think of them as today’s digital equivalent.
- They can be in the form of a desk phone or, by using soft-phone software, you can convert a device (such as a PC, Laptop, Tablet or smart phone) into a phone handset. They don’t need separate phone lines as they connect via your office’s data system, WiFi or the internet.
- 3. The Virtual Desk Phone (VDP)
- Don’t buy handsets as with a VDP, any existing phone can make/receive your business’s calls, so no handset costs or expensive rentals.
- With VDP any authorised phone can make calls as if dialled from (and charged to) “your office”. Inbound calls also route to your authorised handset (which could be your home or mobile number).
- With VDP you can run a business from your existing home or mobile phones without ever needing to buy a handset or install a line or broadband.
Options
